Alarming and Logging

To compliment nmsDashboard’s real-time monitoring, ICEnetware have included Alarming and Logging functionality into the nmsDashboard application so that while you’re away from your monitoring station you can be secure in knowledge that should a critical event occur on your network the nmsDashboard will inform you and hold details of what has happened.
nmsDashboard’s Alarm suite provides you with the mechanism to;
  • Generate an Email.
  • Log the event to the Operating System Application Event Log.*
  • Play a WAV file on the local workstation.
  • Launch an External Process (application or batch file).
The alarming threshold is configured on an element by element basis providing you with maximum control over what events in your nmsDashboard trigger an alarm condition.

To ensure that you are not flooded with alarms from the same device or sent false positive alarm notification, nmsDashboard allows you to configure an alarm dead time.
* Operating system must be Windows NT or later.
  The second is nmsDashboard’s Logging and Replay functionality.
You are able to configure the nmsDashboard to record all of the information collected by your current set of monitoring tasks and then later play it back that data and review exactly what happened while you were away from the workstation.

As you could be away from your workstation for a considerable length of time (over night or an entire weekend), the replay tool allows you to play back your logged data at varying speeds of; 0.1x, 1x, 10x and 100x actual speed.

As your nmsDashboard is capable of receiving SNMP Traps from your network devices, so too is the nmsDashboard capable of raising any of the standard alarm procedures for a received SNMP Trap.
Thus if you have devices that are not directly monitored by your nmsDashboard you can still receive alarm notification from those devices as long as they raise an SNMP Trap to the nmsDashboard.
